The Badando project is an initiative of ASC InSieme, the public utility of the local health district of Casalecchio di Reno (Italy) for the planning and provision of social and healthcare services. Badando was designed to satisfy the households’ need for professional home care for their elderly relatives and the carers’ need for satisfactory work conditions. Badando provides professional training for home care workers, who are then included in the district’s longlist of accredited carers. Each carer receives personalized guidance and is accompanied by one of the district’s case managers during the induction phase and throughout her daily activity. The Badando helpdesk for carers and care recipients’ families and a financial support programme for low-income households are two additional services provided by the project.
The Badando basic training course for carers lasts 90 hours and is offered in face-to-face mode. Regular updates on specific topics such as needs analysis, Alzheimer and dementia, mobilization, etc. are held at regular intervals.
