Peter Oakley: the Internet Grandad

Peter Oakley from England is a perfect example of active aging who despite of being old decided to explore new technologies and created a YouTube channel with more than 42,000 subscribers.

P. Oakley was 78 years old when he first joined YouTube in 2006. He was better known to the Internet public as geriatric1927 posting short autobiographical videos about his memories of childhood, serving in World War II, his hobbies and simple everyday life. His YouTube channel counts 435 video postings all published between 2006 and 2014. Based on Wikipedia, P. Oakley was the most subscribed user on YouTube by mid 2006 - "the Internet Grandad". 

In 2012, he told The Independent on Sunday: “There are millions of people without grandparents who find small comfort in old, simple, stories. I have had my 15 minutes of fame - and enjoyed every minute of it.”1

P.Oakley passed away at the age of 86 on 23rd March 2014. But we will have many great stories online left behind him thanks to technology.
